The Barton Foundation funds lifesaving and life-changing programs at both Barton Health and in the Lake Tahoe community through grants to Barton Health; community non-profits engaged in healthcare-related initiatives; and to address food insecurity issues for individuals and families who were adversely impacted by the pandemic and the Caldor Fire.
These grants would not be possible without the support of our generous donors who continue to advance the health of our community through philanthropy. Included with the $547,000 in funding distributed in 2021 were grants used to purchase leading-edge medical equipment, programmatic support to Barton Health service lines and for the purchase of food cards to help food insecure community members.
In 2019, the Barton Foundation contributed $364,600 to Barton Health and the community. In 2020, the
contribution total was $478,460.
Grant highlights from 2021 include:
$275,000
to the COVID-19 Response Fund, along with the Emergency Response Fund, which was launched in September 2021. Both played an important role in the fight against food insecurity in our community. Throughout 2021, the Barton Foundation continued to distribute food cards to individuals and families who needed financial assistance to purchase food due to the pandemic and the Caldor Fire. To date, over 6,000 local families and individuals have received assistance.
$100,000
allocated to 12 local organizations with a primary focus on mental and behavioral health, substance use and access to healthcare. The Barton Foundation and the Community Health Advisory Committee collaborate to expand the reach of our local philanthropy by awarding these grants to area non-profits. In response to the increased financial needs brought about by the pandemic, the Barton Foundation once again doubled the amount of the grants from previous years, from $50,000 to $100,000.
